THE LORD’S DAY

“And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.” Genesis 2:2-3

THE BIBLE SAYS…

EXODUS 20:8-11

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

ISAIAH 58:13-14

“If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”

MARK 2:27-28

“And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.”

THEREFORE…

WE ACCEPT GOD’S GIFT OF ONE DAY’S REST EACH WEEK: We acknowledge that our true advancement in life depends more on God’s labor than on our own.

“I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.” Ezekiel 20:19-20

WE DEVOTE ONE DAY EACH WEEK TO FOCUS OUR ATTENTION ON GOD IN A SPECIAL WAY: One day in seven we rest from our usual labors and do those things that deepen our love for God.

“Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.” Leviticus 23:3

WE BELIEVE THAT THE HONORING OF THE SABBATH IS A WAY OF EXPRESSING THE TRUTH THAT GOD IS OUR CREATOR AND SUSTAINER: We are dependent on him for all we have in the world, for our deliverance from enemies, and for our holiness. We keep one day in seven to cease from our labors and focus on God as the source of all our blessings.

“Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.” Exodus 31:13

WE BELIEVE THAT THE PARTICULAR DAY OF THE WEEK IS NOT OF PRIMARY IMPORTANCE: The sabbath is one special day in seven when we choose to rest and worship.

“One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” Romans 14:5

WE HONOR THE SABBATH ON SUNDAYS: We do this on the first day of the week as a witness to each other and the world that Jesus Christ is Lord of both our sabbath and our lives.

“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” Colossians 2:16-17

WE DO NOT NEGLECT ATTENDING CHURCH ON GOD’S SPECIAL DAY: On Sundays we joyfully meet together as a fellowship to worship God and enjoy His presence. On that day we experience the highest and most intense joy that can be experienced, that is, we delight in the Lord and enjoy each other’s company!

“I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.” Ezekiel 20:19-20
