PERSONAL HOLINESS

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” Hebrews 12:14

THE BIBLE SAYS…

ISAIAH 35:8

“And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.”

ROMANS 12:1

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

2 CORINTHIANS 7:1

“Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.”

1 THESSALONIANS 4:7

“For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.”

1 PETER 1:15 and 16

“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

1 PETER 2:9

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

THEREFORE…

WE ACCEPT THAT THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT PERSONAL HOLINESS IS ATTAINABLE: God is not capricious. He does not require something of us that is beyond our reach.

“Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.”  1 John 3:6-10

WE UNDERSTAND THAT PERSONAL HOLINESS IS COMMANDED BY JESUS: If Jesus commands it, we can do it.

“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”  Matthew 5:48

WE BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE A PART IN IT: We are required to trust and obey the Lord.

“If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.” 2 Timothy 2:21

WE UNDERSTAND THAT BY WORKING WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT, WE CAN OVERCOME EVIL AND LIVE A HOLY LIFE: The Lord is the one who has the power to cleanse us from all sin, sanctify us, and preserve us for eternity.

“Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  2 Thessalonians 5:22, 23

WE KNOW THAT OUR PERSONAL HOLINESS WAS THE GREAT DESIRE OF THE LORD JESUS. He expressed this desire in His High Priestly Prayer.

I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”   John 17:15-17

WE DESIRE TO BE BLAMELESS BEFORE GOD. We are to be His lights in this world.

Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.” Philippians 2:14-16
